Corporate Philosophy
Our luxury wilderness lodge operates on a "triple bottom line" philosophy that emphasizes a deep respect for the land, for the people of the land, and an understanding that sustainable tourism in such a rare and special place can only flourish when guests from around the world share that same feeling. The bottom line for King Pacific Lodge is that all components must work together harmoniously for any one of them to succeed.

Creation of The Great Bear Rainforest
In 2006, a coalition of native peoples, the British Columbian government and private enterprise took a visionary stance and placed in protection 21 million acres of the world's largest expanse of intact temperate rainforest to safeguard it for future generations. The creation of the Great Bear Rainforest represents an innovative and unique conservation model and is one of the most significant examples of social responsibility in sustainable tourism. King Pacific Lodge played a pivotal role in the process of protecting this environmentally sensitive area and continues to steward the rainforest in partnership with the local Gitga'at community at Hartley Bay.

Location
King Pacific Lodge is anchored along the shore of Barnard Harbor, Princess Royal Island in British Columbia, Canada; about 380 miles north of Vancouver. The island has no permanent inhabitants or structures and this highly sensitive environment is in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest, the world's largest remaining tract of temperate rainforest.

Getting There
Only 2.5 hours from Vancouver, guests are flown by private charter to Bella Bella where they board a floatplane for a scenic transfer to the lodge's front door.

All-Inclusive
Package rates include roundtrip air transportation from Vancouver, all meals, host bar, and guided activities.

The Lodge
A floating luxury wilderness lodge built of native pine, fir, cedar and stone on a 120 x 60 square foot barge, with 17 guest rooms and suites, a wrap-around deck with spectacular views, spa, Jacuzzi and plunge pool.

Operation
June through September. The lodge is towed from its winter home in Prince Rupert to its summer operational location in Barnard Harbor.

Experiences
Professional wilderness guides offer interpretative hikes, sea kayaking, beach combing, heli-hiking, whale watching, wildlife viewing, star gazing, floatplane tours, fly-tying instruction and cultural tours with the indigenous Gitga'at. The region is home of the rare cream-colored 'Spirit Bear' and expert guides lead bear-viewing searches in September. Saltwater trolling and fly-fishing are also offered, as well as remote freshwater heli-fly-fishing.

Wildlife Viewing Opportunities
The area is teeming with orcas, humpback whales, black bears, grizzlies, cream colored Kermode or 'Spirit Bears' (a black bear with a double recessive gene and is rarer than the panda), seals, sea lions, sea otters and eagles.

Gourmet Dining
The lodge's culinary offerings features seasonal local and regional organic produce, fresh seafood and meats, paired with award-winning wines. The dining room boasts ocean views on two sides, a large open fireplace, and family/group dining, or if preferred the option of individual dining.

Luxurious Accommodations
The lodge offers 17 guest rooms, including three suites, all of which feature in-room bathrooms with deep Osaka tubs and showers, and the ultimate in luxurious linens, towels and robes. The guest rooms are configured as follows:

• 1 Oversized Room (one king-size bed)
• 13 Oversized Rooms (one king-size bed or two twin-size beds)
• 2 Suites (one king-size bed, one queen-size Murphy bed)
• Princess Royal Suite (living room with fireplace, dining room, powder room, master bedroom, dressing room, bathroom with Jacuzzi, shower, adjoining bedroom with king-size bed)

The Great Room
Perfect for gathering and relaxing, the space features a cathedral-height ceiling, ocean views, comfortable leather sofas, oversize armchairs and a large double-sided open fireplace.

Game Room/Meeting Room
The game room offers shuffleboard, large card table, darts and fly-tying table. The game room can be converted to an executive boardroom or small meeting room with a maximum capacity of 28 people.

The Spa
Features a full menu of signature treatments, enjoyed either in-spa or in-room, including massage, body wraps, aromatherapy and reflexology. Among the facilities are a treadmill, sauna, steam room, cold plunging tub and hot tub.

Climate
In summer, temperature ranges from 70°-80° Fahrenheit during the day and 50°-60° at night.

What to Bring
Comfortable, casual clothes adaptable to the summer temperatures, and a swimsuit for the Jacuzzi or one of the many alpine lakes. For guests interested in land expeditions, hiking boots or shoes and a water-resistant windbreaker are highly recommended. The lodge is totally isolated, so guests need to remember to bring prescriptions and other personal items. The lodge provides everything for ocean and fly-fishing excursions including insulated flotation raingear.
