KPL: Culinary Concepts

BC fine dining comes to life at King Pacific Lodge. Here, the food concept is a reflection of its different localities - culturally, geographically and individually. Floating in a sheltered harbor along the shores of Princess Royal Island in the heart of British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest, King Pacific Lodge delivers an elegant wilderness gourmet resort dining experience comparable in quality to the most sophisticated cities but unique in its expression of local Pacific Northwest cuisine. 2009 Condé Nast Gold List: Top ranked property in North America in Food Category

The lodge owner's Japanese influence, its location in British Columbia and the knowledge of the coastal traditions of the Gitga'at, stewards of this area for centuries, all manifest in King Pacific's innovative food concept.

Japanese Influence
Over 360 years ago, the Morita family of Japan embarked on the time honored tradition of making sake. Using rice grown in the fertile Reiki Valley of the Nagoya region, the result was a distinctly flavored sake which challenged the conformity of a nation and the taste levels of the times. The Morita family embraced this unique flavor, and produced a sake that is now a standard of excellence in Japan. King Pacific Lodge honors this aspect of its locality and continues the pursuit of excellence in all that it offers.

Award-Winning BC Food and Wine
British Columbia has entered onto the world stage with award winning foods and wines. Its high quality fresh produce, cheeses and wines also form part of the unique locality, which King Pacific Lodge offers its guests. Everything the lodge chooses to serve has meaning and is presented for a reason. The dining table is a stage for the confluence of this unique Pacific Northwest local cuisine that is shared with each and every guest.

First Nations Inspiration
Princess Royal Island is part of the traditional territory of the Gitga'at people. For countless years they have been stewards of the land and sea, sustaining themselves through time honored, sensitive harvesting techniques. For King Pacific Lodge, as for the Gitga'at people, salmon is not just a food source - it is a way of life and nature's rhythm and balance is expressed in King Pacific's cuisine. The culinary staff respect the inherent goodness of this food and the integrity of its flavor, seeking only to complement and enhance it.

The lodge's executive chef serves as creative director, bringing the King Pacific Lodge food concept to life and adding his own locality - adding his light to the sum of lights. Every day, he awaits guests with a desire to showcase the best traditions by providing a culinary adventure that is memorable not only in its exquisite taste, but also in its respect and honor for the beauty of the food itself.
