INTO THE WILDERNESS...IN STYLE
The vast sea of wilderness green meeting an ocean of blue makes the heart race with excitement anticipating the experience to come, but in reality has already begun with this overwhelming aerial show en route to King Pacific Lodge, A Rosewood Resort. As the float plane splashes down and taxis to the dock, the afternoon sun bathing the lodge in a golden aura, the champagne corks are popped. The newly arrived guests are greeted by the staff with glasses of bubbly and tales of adventure. The excitement is building.
Over the next days, guests will choose from a menu of activities that engage the mind and body as they are immersed in the wonders of one of the most biologically diverse areas of the planet. They will be awe struck by the raw beauty of nature here, overcome at the sighting of a rare Kermode Sprit Bear, thrilled by the breaching of 40-foot humpbacks who hurl their massive bodies into the air in magnificent displays, and entranced by the indigenous people who have been stewards of this land for millenia - while being pampered with every luxury amenity and service, from beautifully appointed, comfortable rooms and suites to gourmet cuisine and fine wines.
Each day, by boat, kayak and helicopter, guests will go in different directions: whale watching in waters that are home to one of the world's highest densities of orcas and humpbacks; fly fishing at remote untouched rivers accessible only by helicopter, where you cast alongside bears feeding on migrating salmon, or saltwater fishing in incredibly rich Pacific waters teeming with halibut, rockfish, lingcod and yellow eye; hiking in the primordial rain forest, among massive pine, fir and cedar, eagles soaring overhead; kayaking on ocean waters accompanied by seals, otters, porpoises and even whales, or on an emerald lake combined with a beach picnic, hikes and wildlife viewing; searching for the cream-colored Kermode, following tracks and markings until one is spotted feeding on salmon and berries; visiting a Longhouse of the Gitga'at, the area's First Nation indigenous people, and hearing ancient stories and traditions told by an elder; and visiting the local whale research station where the passionate researchers share their finding, recordings of whale songs and countless stories of whale encounters.
And at the end of each day, the guests then come together again at the lodge, all now feeling they are part of something inspiring, something that they are sharing together. As they gather in The Great Room before a roaring fire, ensconced in comfortable chairs, the passion comes pouring out as they describe their experiences to each other. The tales continue into dinner, where they sit together at a communal table as if members of a fantastic expedition going over the day's events. The camaraderie is infectious, and grows with each day. The more they learn from each other, the better they know what activity they want to do the next day.
An escape to King Pacific Lodge is a journey without end, because it is an experience never forgotten. On the dock on departure day, the float plane ready for boarding, guests have to force themselves to go home. A connection has been kindled, or perhaps rekindled, both with themselves and to the beauty and profundity of nature. It will always be with them, until their next visit to King Pacific Lodge.
